- ever wonder why me use 'lb' to abbreviate 'pound'? the actual abbreviation is for Libra...whose image held weigh scales.
-put a sock in it! this phrase refers to the very first record players that used a horn to reproduce the sound (actually called gramophones for Alexander Gram Bell)...which had no volume control. so, inserting one or more socks into the mouth of the horn supressed the volume.
